The Old

The Terrace Community Band (TCB) was established as a band in 1983 by original conductor, James McLaren Ryan. TCB was a resurrection of a band that was active in the early 1950's. During Jim's involvement with the band, he led them to a national standard of performance and a source of pride for our community.

The Band is proud to have shared its music throughout many of the communities in Northern B.C. Several particularly marking events happened while visiting Haida Gwaii: the Band performed at the 'ground-breaking' ceremony for the new Sk'Aagdaa Naay Elementary School in Skidegate, twice performed at a telethon supporting the Masset Hospital, and in 2001 performed at the opening ceremony of the Dixon Entrance Maritime Museum in Masset. In 1994, although unable to attend, the Band was honoured with an invitation to perform at the opening ceremony of the University of Northern British Columbia, in Prince George, a ceremony also attended by Queen Elizabeth II.

TCB participates annually in the Pacific Northwest Music Festival, and has won consecutive awards at the Provincial Music Festival in 1986 to 1988. On five occasions Jim presented the Band at MusicFest Canada, our national music festival, achieving Bronze, Silver and Gold awards while competing at the same level as college and university bands.

The Terrace Community Band represents all walks of life, ranging in age from the nearly graduated to the newly retired, and is made up of individuals who come from as far away as the maritimes, to others who have spent all of their lives in Terrace. Well into their third decade, the members of TCB continue to represent their community, as well as express their love for music.

The Band continues to participate in many concerts, fundraising events, and MusicFest events in our community as well as outside of our community.
TCB consists of members who've been part of the band since the beginning, and some who are brand new this year. We welcome any and all music lovers with any level of skill!
